POSITION SUMMARY 

CenterPoint is working —as part of a collaboration with multiple organizationswith a large school district to support the design, development, and implementation of a new, culturally relevant, and equity-focused preK-12 aligned system of curriculum, assessments, and professional learning. 

CenterPoint is responsible for developing 1.) a preK-5 curriculum in English language arts (ELA), 2.) a set of PreK interim assessments, and 3.) and a preK-12 item bank in ELA and mathematics. The Instructional Designer will join a team of content experts and writers to support the design and development of preK-5 curricular materials for this project.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The main duties and responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

Serve as a subject matter expert in the areas of literacy and curriculum development

 Participate in the design and development of curricular materials for CenterPoint’s district client, including: 

   Writing lessons, playlists, unit plans, and supporting materials  

   Reviewing curricular materials for quality and alignment to the standards and client specifications; revising materials as necessary  

 Supporting text selection for the curriculum units

 Support development of professional learning materials aligned to the curriculum, as neededProvide additional project support and coordination, as needed 

REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES Commitment to CenterPoint’s mission and organizational values  

3+ years of experience in preK-5 teaching 

Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and other college- and career-ready standards

 Understanding of curriculum design  

Experience writing curriculum and other instructional materials required

 Experience woking with EL populations a plusExperience designing or writing assessments a plus  

Problem solver and strategic thinker with a team-player approach to work

 Ability to interact with the most senior levels of an organization and work collaboratively across the organization

Freelance Item Writing Opportunities for Educatorsin Mathematics and English Language Arts (Reading, Writing)

CenterPoint Education Solutions is searching for freelance item writers in Mathematics and English Language Arts (Reading and Writing) to develop test items (including for both large-scale assessments and classroom-based formative assessments)in grades K-12. Freelance item writers work from home and are paid on a per-item basis.We’re especially interested in hiring current or recently retired classroom teachers, as we recognize that the best educational resources are developed by educators for educators. 

 

If you meet our freelance item writing qualifications, we provide training on how to develop high quality multiple-choice, open response, short answer, performance tasks, and technology-enhanced educational assessment items. After an initial training period, new potential freelance writersare provided with a sample item writing assignment and receive feedback, so each writer can successfully meet the quality expectations for assessments aligned to college-and career-ready standards. Item writers also learn to create items using our state of the art, secure item authoringsystem.  

Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or Doctorate in discipline (or in Curriculum, Measurement or another applicable area). 

Two or more years of teaching experience earned at the elementary, middle or secondary level. 

Prior item writing experience preferred but will provide instructional materials and feedbackto train new writers. 

Excellent written communication skills. 

Familiarity with national and/or state curriculum standards including the Common Core (for Math and ELA) and the Next Generation Science Standards, NGSS (for Science).

Instructional Coach

 

NMSI’s mission is to advance STEM education to ensure that all students, especially those furthest from opportunity, thrive and reach their highest potential as problem solvers and lifelong learners who pursue their passions and tackle the world’s toughest challenges. NMSI is seeking highly successful Pre-K-12 teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders who are inspired by this mission to become members of our regionally based Coach corps. NMSI Coaches support our core programs, which include the College Readiness Program, Laying the Foundation, Leadership Development, AlignEd, and PreK-2nd programming —by delivering professional development for teachers or content support for students.  

 

This is a temporary part-time position expected to end on May 31, 2021, with the possibility of continuation based on staffing needs. Coaches will be expected to utilize their personal laptop for preparation and facilitation.  

 

What You’ll Do   

NMSI Coaches work with AP, Pre-AP, high school, middle school, and elementary teachers, school leaders, and their students in online and face-to-face settings to improve teacher impact. Through working with teachers and/or leaders through NMSI’s PreK-12 programming, Coaches develop content and lead face-to-face and online cohorts of teachers and/or leaders in skill-building professional development sessions that focus on the development of teachers’ content, pedagogical content knowledge, instructional planning, assessment practices, and data analysis skills. Coaches help teachers identify student misconceptions, skill gaps, and learning needs to strengthen student performance in rigorous coursework.   

 

In addition, NMSI Coaches facilitate online learning and collaboration sessions that support teachers’ and leaders’ ability to plan, execute, and adapt instruction. Using their knowledge of teacher and school-level goals, data, and instructional focus areas, Coaches assigned to work with teachers, leaders, and students in NMSI’s core programs will support students during in-person and online content review sessions. Coaches working with school leaders will support them in building leadership teams and their capacity to increase access and opportunity to engage with STEM education. Depending on individual experience and NMSI training needs, Coaches could be assigned to any of NMSI's core programming, including College Readiness Program, Laying the Foundation, PreK-8th Computer Science, or Leadership Development.  

 

What are the details? 

  • Coach and mentor teachers, leaders, and students in online and/or face-to-face settings, while maintaining high levels rigor for both teacher-facing professional development and facilitation of student-facing review sessions.  
  • Coaches will be assigned training opportunities within NMSI’s core and custom programs based upon their content qualifications, adult facilitation and coaching experience, and proven success in improving student outcomes.   
  • Provide targeted, actionable feedback to teachers and leaders on their practice of the techniques and strategies presented during PD sessions.   
  • Have a deep understanding of teachers’ and schools’ students and classroom complexities; be able to support teachers practice in the application of their own learning to classroom or leadership practice.   
  • Promote a learning environment and mentorship for teachers, leaders, and students that is anchored in self-reflection, culturally responsive instruction that is aimed to accelerate student growth and achievement.   
  • Ensure the effective integration and implementation of NMSI training and resources in teachers' classrooms t hrough coaching, modeling, and feedback. 
  • Support the creation, development, editing, and critical review of teacher, leader, and student-facing content. 
  • Complete NMSI Train-the-Trainer professional development opportunities.    
  • Participate in regular data-sharing and planning meetings with NMSI staff. 
  • Serve as an ambassador for NMSI and NMSI's mission and values to the school communities in which they work, fostering a commitment to equity and access to rigorous coursework and creating educational environments in which students can thrive and reach their highest potential.

Qualifications    

  • Experience: Deep knowledge of content and instruction, with at least 4 years of teaching experience in AP Science, Math, Computer Science, English, History, or Art courses; Pre-AP math, science, computer science, ELA, or social studies courses; Pre-K-5 classroom instruction; and/or Leadership Development, experience as a school leader/administrator, counselor, department head, etc.   
  • Other Preferred Experience: STEM-based learning experience, experience in high-need schools or with high-need populations, and a proven track record of raising student achievement is preferred. AP Reader experience is preferred for Coaches who will work with AP teachers and students.  Experience coaching teachers in modifying, adapting, or extending curricula to better address student needs and facilitating professional development   
  • Mission Focused: Strong belief in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels and willingness to advocate for equity and access in AP, Pre-AP, or other STEM programs and classrooms.  
  • College-Readiness Guru: Strong familiarity and experience with state and national teaching standards as they relate to College-readiness standards, such as AP assessment frameworks, Common Core State Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)   
  • Understand Effective Teaching and/or School Leadership: Immediate understanding of what effective teaching and or school leadership looks like and a deep commitment to the importance of effective and rigorous instruction.  
  • Technology Proficiency:Ability to facilitate a learning experience in an online LMS such as Blackboard, Canvas, and/or Google Classroom. These skills include but are not limited to: 
    • Respond to participant questions, emails, and discussion board posts in a professional way that is in accordance with NMSI standards for learning. 
    • Review online course materials to ensure technical accuracy, submit any errors/improvements, and be confident/prepared to teach. 
    • Review and update online grade books and provide constructive feedback. 
    • Facilitate live synchronous sessions that promote a positive learning environment.  
    • (Preferred qualification) Ability to build a learning experience for teachers and students using content authoring tools such as Articulate.  
    • (Preferred qualification) Ability to navigate and create course content in an LMS such as Blackboard and Google Classroom. 
  • Expert Communicator: Ability to communicate direct feedback in a compelling way that inspires teachers and leaders to make immediate improvements to instruction that will accelerate their students’ achievement; Strong written and oral communication skills.

Senior Manager

As a key member of the Program Department, the Senior Manager, Cultivation will collaborate within both the District Sales & Cultivation team as well as the Programmatic Partnerships team to help shape and realize a nationwide school district sales and cultivation strategy. The Senior Manager, Cultivation will co-own setting and driving progress toward pod-level cultivation goals with Senior Program Managers.   

 

The District Sales & Cultivation team grounds our goals, planning and day-to-day work in our District Sales & Cultivation strategy, which emphasizes expanding NMSI’s impact by aligning our sales and cultivation efforts with our mission.  

 

What are the details? 

Reporting to the Director, District Sales & Cultivation, the Senior Manager, Cultivation will demonstrate a commitment to NMSI’s mission, an ability to create relationships within communities that lead to programmatic partnerships, an interest in continually developing content knowledge about our academic strategy, self-awareness to know when you’re the expert or when to bring in someone else, leadership and influencing skills, ability to collaborate with others to achieve outcomes, project management, data analysis and exceptional communication and organizational skills.  

While work will vary day to day, there are typical job responsibilities in this role: 

District Sales & Cultivation Team Leadership 

  • Provide feedback on, implement, and adjust as needed, the district sales and cultivation strategy. 
  • Collaborate with Director, District Sales and Cultivation in setting team goals.
  • Utilize and expand your network to share education trends from wide-ranging news sources and brainstorm responsive approaches
  • Lead team brainstorming and problem-solving to both shape customer-centric sales and cultivation efforts, as well as internal development. 
  • Continually learn about our evolving academic strategy and how we can meet the needs of communities.
  • Track team information in appropriate systems, utilize data to track progress to goals and adjust course where needed to meet or reset goals. 

Regional Cultivation Pod & External Relationship Management 

  • Co-lead with Senior Program Managers implementing the strategy for your regional pod with a focus on expanding NMSI’s impact. 
  • Lead new community and district programmatic partner cultivation in assigned region. 
  • Balance strategic and opportunistic sales and cultivation opportunities to meet both team and pod goals. 
  • Strengthen and grow external networks in your region that lead to new partnerships and opportunities toward the goal of greater racial and socioeconomic diversity within STEM fields. 
  • Represent NMSI as the leader in providing STEM education and increased opportunity for student success for every school and every region we partner. 

Equity & Inclusion 

  • Monitor cultivation efforts by socioeconomic status, race, and gender to spot gaps and disparities. 
  • Identify ways current cultivation and culture undermine equity and help determine path forward to improve equity and inclusion.

Internal Collaboration 

  • Partner with all teams in Development to ensure alignment of external messaging and marketing. 
  • Partner with Fundraising to collaborate on a community-centered approach to fundraising and programmatic partnerships. 
  • Partner with Teaching and Learning to both influence and understand ongoing development of services. 
  • Participate and contribute in cross-functional discussions, working groups and strategic meetings that directly impact the work of the Program Department, District Sales and Cultivation team, and NMSI as a whole.
